Is your young teen looking for work? Do they feel comfortable with children of different ages? Do they perhaps need some confidence in taking this next step into the realm of responsibility? If so, taking a Red Cross Babysitter Course may be a step in the right direction!
In this 8 hour non-certification Red Cross Babysitting Course, youth will be taught basic First Aid and caregiving skills. This course is designed for youth around the ages of 11 to 15 years old who will learn how to provide care to everyone from babies to school-aged children and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. This course also offers youth the training to promote and market themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents.
The following topics will be covered in-depth during the class:
- Business of babysitting;
- Caring for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children;
- Creating a safe environment;
- How to deal with emergencies and basic First Aid and CPR skills.
The course will also cover which questions are appropriate to ask before accepting a babysitting job and determine what age of child your young teen is comfortable caring for.
Babysitting course participants will get to take home a full-colour Red Cross Babysitter’s Manual, a Babysitter Wallet Card and Babysitter Wall Certificate.
To participate in and successfully pass this course, participants must be a minimum of 11 years of age, have complete attendance to the 8-hour course and receive a 75% minimum passing grade on the written exam.
Participants must also bring their own lunch if they have registered in one of our full 8-hour day course options.
All of our RC Babysitting courses are taught by Julia Brobbel in our head office location at 544 Victoria Drive. Julia has 13 plus years of experience in the field of recreation and offers a great deal of enthusiasm and personal experience in the realm of babysitting. Youth will be supervised at all times and will not be allowed to go off-site at any point throughout the day without the supervision of their guardian.
